Back from Pre-Production in Seattle
This trip was centered around the development of Unearthed Reverb, our upcoming short documentary exploring Robert Lang Studios one of the Pacific Northwest’s most legendary recording spaces. What began as a research and pre-production visit quickly became something much more substantial. We captured incredible footage, meaningful story material, and a guided look inside a studio built through instinct, survival, sound, and imagination.
Robert Lang Studios is more than a recording space. It is a handmade creative world filled with stories, artifacts, rooms, and memories connected to generations of music history. During our visit, we were able to document the atmosphere of the studio, the character of the rooms, and the emotional foundation of a story that asks how an ordinary place becomes a cultural landmark.
The trip also helped shape the next phase of the film. We are now planning a return visit to capture additional visuals, more of the recording process, and the living creative energy of the studio today. The goal is not only to look back at what happened inside those rooms, but to show that spaces like this still matter — especially in a world where music, memory, and human connection are increasingly shaped by digital tools.
While in Washington, we also attended a sold-out Speakeasy event in Bothell at Side Hustle Brewery, the featured storyteller and star of Cosmic Heirloom: Buried 400 Years was there. Cosmic Heirloom explores the forgotten history of psilocybin, from ancient traditions and cultural suppression to modern scientific rediscovery. Seeing that story come alive in an intimate room confirmed exactly why Song of Sunset exists: to bring independent film, live conversation, music, and real human stories together in unforgettable spaces.
That same spirit is coming to Bend this fall.
Song of Sunset: Underground takes place October 23–24 in Bend, Oregon, bringing together short documentaries, live music, filmmaker conversations, and a destination weekend experience for people who love film, music, culture, and the stories hiding beneath the surface.
Day One begins Friday, October 23, with an intimate Speakeasy-style gathering at Waypoint Hotel featuring conversation, live music, and a special presentation connected to Cosmic Heirloom. Day Two continues Saturday, October 24, at Silver Moon Brewing with screenings of Cosmic Heirloom: Buried 400 Years and Unearthed Reverb, live panel conversations, a Pacific Northwest music showcase, and the Official Song of Sunset Guitar Giveaway.
Now is a great time to reserve your seat for Day One of Song of Sunset: Underground and start planning your Bend weekend.
This project began with a simple belief: small rooms, live stories, and human creativity still matter. After our latest trip to Seattle, that belief feels stronger than ever.
